TAKING REFERENCE PHOTOGRAPHS
Your custom pet portrait will be drawn from your photos and as I only have the photo to guide me, it is the most important part of the entire portrait process. The better the photo, the better the artwork. It's important that you send sharp high-resolution photographs. I need to be able to see eyes, fur and correct colouring. Photos taken in bad light, using a flash (causing "red" eyes), from a distance or too close to the pet might render it impossible for me to see any details. Yet it is the details that enable me to capture YOUR pet's looks and personality. Your pet's eyes are the most important feature. I would rather you send many photos if you are unsure. My style is very detailed and based on realism and although I'm happy to work with poorer quality images if absolutely necessary, please be aware that I won't be able to achieve the same level of detail in the portrait if working from unclear photos. If you are unable to provide suitable photo, I am happy to come and take my own reference photographs when possible. Photo shoots are included if you live within a 20 mile radius of GL56 0GL. Outside of this area I charge travel expenses of 50p/ mile.
- Set your camera or phone to the highest resolution available
- Never use a flash, as this will create too many highlights and unnatural shadows
- Take your photos in good daylight but not in bright sunshine
- Aim to be at eye-level with the animal, this will create a more natural position of the animal and their head will not appear distorted
- Having someone to hold a treat/ toy to keep your pet still while you take photos is very helpful!
